A Time for Resistance and Action

The devastating federal budget bill has passed and now goes to Trump to be signed into law.

This bill turns its back on immigrant communities, working families, and our most basic human needs. It funnels money into ICE to tear families apart and increase surveillance, while pulling support, like food assistance and affordable health care, from those already struggling. 

This budget doesn’t just hurt our country, it hits Colorado hard. It rips a billion-dollar hole in our state budget, pushes families off their healthcare, and threatens to shut down rural hospitals.  Families will lose care, communities will lose safety, and the people who’ve always carried the burden will be asked to carry even more, with less. We know what happens next. Latine communities will be left to pick up the pieces, like we always do, while the people who supported this budget wash their hands of the harm.

As expected, all Republican representatives from Colorado– Jeff Herd, Lauren Boebert, Jeff Crank, and Gabe Evans– voted “yes,” choosing billionaires and big business over their communities. Again. These are the people who are supposed to be representing us in Washington, D.C., and we won’t stay quiet while our lawmakers sell us out.

Now is the time to remind our elected officials that we are watching how they wield their power and influence, and our communities deserve compassionate leadership, not fear-based politics. 

We will not despair. This administration may be in office, but we have the people and the power. We’re calling for resistance at every level: in the streets, in our legislatures, and at the ballot box.

We're writing to each of these lawmakers directly and urge you to let them know how this budget will make things harder for you and your family. And, make sure you’re registered to vote and that your family, friends, and neighbors are, too, because YOU have the power to vote these jokers, clowns, and fools out of office.
